All ships of the A class were built between 1928 and 1930 at Willemsoord, Den Helder.

HNLMS Jan van Gelder

After initial repairs at Willemsoord, Den Helder, she received a new stern at Gusto, Schiedam, and was recommissioned on 17 April 1940.


George Pinckard

He was promoted for his services to the rank of deputy inspector-general of hospitals, and had part of the direction of the medical service in the Duke of York's expedition to Den Helder.
