unusual facts about base on balls

Base on balls

Though intentional walks are recorded as such in the records of the official scorer, they are combined with standard, non-intentional walks when calculating a player's on-base percentage, and have only received a separate column in a player's statistics since 1955.

Audrey Wagner

She also posted career-numbers in games played (117), runs (70), RBI (56), on-base percentage (.393), walks (56) and triples (14, one behind Eleanor Callow), and was the only girl to hit over .300 in that season, ending 23 points ahead of runner-up Connie Wisniewski.

Bristol Twins

Four of the Welch hitters did reach base, including one runner each via a walk, an error, a hit batsman and a passed ball charged to Twins' catcher Harry Dunlop on a swinging third strike.

Chris Volstad

Volstad graduated from Palm Beach Gardens Community High School in 2005, pitching to a 7-2 win-loss record with one save and a 0.41 earned run average (ERA) in 10 games for the school's baseball team as a senior, striking out 98 batters and walking just eight in 69 innings pitched.

Julián Ladera

In the match, Ladera allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out five on a talented lineup that featured Bob Aspromonte, Canena Márquez, Herb Plews, Bobby Smith and Bob Speake, among others.

Larry Stahl

Playing for the Padres on September 2, 1972, against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Stahl drew one of the most questionable bases on balls in baseball history — if only because of the circumstances surrounding it.

Tim Harkness

Harkness made his major league debut on September 12, 1961 against the Phillies, working out a walk in five pitches against pitcher Chris Short as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning in a 19–10 loss at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
