2 unusual facts about powerplant

PowerPlant

It was designed to work with a GUI editor called Constructor; unusually for such programs, Constructor was primarily a resource editor specializing primarily in UI elements, including several custom resource types, 'PPob' ("PowerPlant object" -- a general view description), 'CT Y P' (custom widgets), and Mcmd (used for dispatching menu-related events).

PowerPlant is an object-oriented GUI toolkit, application framework and set of class libraries for Mac OS, created by Metrowerks.

Aerocar Micro-IMP

The Micro-IMP was ultimately a disappointment because its powerplant (taken from the Citroën 2CV) proved unsuitable, and a projected higher-powered version of the engine did not eventually become available.

Automobile engine replacement

Classic car hobbyists may also install reproductions of a rare powerplant in a classic car (this is most often seen in Mopar muscle cars that have the 426 Hemi installed into them).

BMW 132

The 132 found widespread use in the transport role, remaining the primary powerplant of the Junkers Ju 52 for much of its life, turning the BMW 132 into one of the most important aeroengines for civilian aircraft during the 1930s.

De Havilland Spectre

It was one element of the intended mixed powerplant for combination rocket-jet interceptor aircraft for the Royal Air Force, such as the Saunders-Roe SR.53.

Dougal Marchant

The TT bike had a Unit construction powerplant, with a bevel-driven overhead camshaft.

Dyson Racing

This move rekindled the team's long standing relationship with Lola and Advanced Engine Research, who was responsible for the Mazda LMP2 MZR-R powerplant.

Electric Counterpoint

As with other pieces by Reich, this piece has influenced many modern musical artists, such as the Orb, which sampled the third movement of the Pat Metheny recording as one of the hooks of "Little Fluffy Clouds," and RJD2, who sampled the piece's opening of his song "The Proxy" from his first release, Deadringer. In 2008 Joby Burgess' Powerplant arranged the work for xylosynth, taking influence from Metheny and the Orb.

Eurojet

Eurojet EJ200 a military turbofan, the powerplant of the Eurofighter Typhoon

Fairey S.9/30

The most obvious difference between the S.9/30 and its descendants was the powerplant, the former having a liquid cooled V-12 Rolls-Royce Kestrel, rather than the radial engine of the Swordfish.

Ferrari 333 SP

While the 333 SP was on its planning stages, Ferrari contracted Italian motor racing chassis manufacturer Dallara to develop the chassis and tub, leaving the maker to concentrate on the engine, a version of the V12 powerplant used in the 1992 Ferrari F92A Formula One car, enlarged to 4.0 L, with power around 600 bhp (around 450 kW).

Flying Heritage Collection

The FHC aircraft is the world's only currently airworthy example, reconstructed from several different Shturmoviks recovered from various areas of Russia and powered by an Allison V-1710 engine rather than the scarce Mikulin AM-38, with the Allison's internal parts rearranged to enable clockwise rotation (a production feature of the American engine's design) for the Il-2, as with the original Russian powerplant.

Fokker D.XIII

It was a development of the Fokker D.XI with a new powerplant and considerably refined aerodynamics, and had been designed to meet the requirements of the clandestine flying school operated by the German Army at Lipetsk in the Soviet Union.

Fuel injection

An early use of indirect gasoline injection dates back to 1902, when French aviation engineer Leon Levavasseur pioneered it on his Antoinette 8V aircraft powerplant.

Hirth HM 500

Due to low fuel consumption and excellent reliability, the HM 500 was chosen as the powerplant for the Bücker Bü 181.

Ilmor X3

Illien used his world championship winning F1 engine experience to design the machine's V4 powerplant, with Suter, who has previously designed Kawasaki's MotoGP chassis, in charge of the twin-spar aluminum frame.

James Sites

His richly varied career includes being a powerplant engineer, reporter, editor, publisher, Eisenhower Fellow, Washington public relations/editorial counsellor and government official during the Gerald Ford administration.

Kawasaki C-2

Kawasaki Heavy Industries was chosen to develop the aircraft, in parallel with the P-X to cut costs, sharing major airframe parts and system components; using the same basic wing structure, although it is installed at different sweep angle and dihedral on the two versions, with different high lift devices and powerplant attachments.

Lister Storm LMP

While the GT car is powered by the Jaguar V12 engine, the prototype was originally intended to be fitted with a Judd V10 powerplant but was built with a Chevrolet V8.

Lockheed Martin Desert Hawk

It is made mostly of plastic foam, suggesting something like a Nerf toy, and uses an electric motor driving a pusher propeller as a powerplant, making it very quiet.

Mooney M20

In July 2008 Mooney signed a memorandum of understanding with Rolls-Royce to develop a version of the M20 that was to have been powered by the Rolls-Royce RR500 TP turboprop powerplant.

Mundelein High School

It was one of the few aviation technology programs in a high school until it was removed from the curriculum due to lack of sponsors and a lack of accredited teachers, as the school required teachers to not only hold an Illinois teaching certificate, but either a pilot's license or an airframe-and-powerplant mechanic certificate from the FAA as well.

Nikolay Dollezhal

In 1957 Dollezhal Institute launched their first dual-use (civilian energy and weapons-grade plutonium) powerplant, Type EI, and seven years later, the first truly industrial Beloyarsk power plant.

Opel Family II engine

By 1986, the Family II unit had completely supplanted the CIH engine as Opel's core 4-cylinder powerplant.

Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics

The Hagerstown and Youngstown Branch Campuses each offer a 16-month diploma program in Aviation Maintenance which, like the Aviation Maintenance degree program, qualifies graduates to test for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certification.

Pontiac Club de Mer

The brainchild of GM engineer-designer, Harley Earl (Paul Gillian was also involved being the Pontiac Studio head at the time), the "de Mer" was a two door sport Roadster that incorporated innovative breakthrough styling like a sleek, low-profile body encasing a large powerplant, a design trend used widely in LSR (land speed record) trials at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah during the 1950s.

Porsche 3512

The engine eventually became mass-produced when a further variant was chosen as the powerplant of the Porsche Carrera GT supercar.

Power-egg

The BMW 801 engine was also provided in both formats for a number of German designs, especially for twin and multi-engined airframes, with the "M" or "T" first suffix letter designating whether it was a Motoranlage or Triebswerksanlage format unitized powerplant.

Shvetsov M-11

It was also used for the up-engined GAZ-98K aerosani winter-used sled in a pusher configuration (as airboats use today), and as the standard powerplant for the similar NKL-26 propeller-driven sledges during the World War II years.

Symphony Aircraft Industries

The aircraft were to have been given a new name and be available in a VFR version intended for flight school use, a basic IFR version and a glass cockpit equipped version powered by a 200-hp Lycoming IO-390 powerplant giving it a forecast cruise speed of 148 knots.
