The Cheetal, Kakar, Nilgai, Sambar and Wild Boar are among the most easily and often spotted animals particularly near the waterholes at the time of the dusk.

Numerous wildlife species can be seen including elephants, gaur, water buffaloes, tigers, panthers, sloth bears, pangolins, Black-headed Orioles, crocodiles, Green Pigeons, civet cats, Dhole, Sambar and 31 groups of endangered lion-tailed macaques.
Other than the gibbons the wild life in the reserve reported are: Great Barbet (Megalaima virens); Grey-headed Parakeet (Psittacula finschii); grey leaf monkeys (Semnopithecus); Crab-eating Mongoose (Herpestes urva), tiger (Panthera tigris); smaller cats; Dhole (Cuon alpinus), bears (two types); otters; sambar (Cervus unicolor); and wild cattle (Gaur).
The most common mammal species of this sanctuary are – Hoolock Gibbon, slow loris, Pig-tailed Macaque, Stump-tailed Macaque, Capped Langur, Asian Elephant, Tiger, Black Panther, Leopard, Gaur, Chinese Pangolin, Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Squirrel, Leopard Cat, Clouded Leopard, Porcupine, Crab Eating Mongoose, Sambar, Sun bear, Binturong, Barking deer, Golden cat, marbled cat etc.
Gavi's evergreen forests are abundant with wildlife including the Tiger, elephants, Leopards, Bears, Indian Gaur, sambar, barking and mouse deers, Lion Tailed Macaque, Nilgiri Marten and more than 250 species of birds.

These protected areas are especially known for several threatened and endemic species including Nilgiri Thar, the Grizzled Giant Squirrel, the Nilgiri Wood-pigeon, Elephant, the Gaur, the Nilgiri langur, the Sambar, and the Neelakurinji (that blossoms only once in twelve years).
