A History of Warfare

It also talks about the conquests of the 'horse peoples', first under the Assyrians, then the Achaemenids, Parthians and Sassanids; then in the 7th century the Arabs conquer a lot of territory, followed by the Mongols under Genghis Khan and finally the last of the horse peoples under a Mongol named Tamerlane, who unleashes massive carnage and destruction.

Al-Jazira province

:The Assyrians immigration in the High Jazira (...) goes on and is supported by the Mandate Power as it facilitates a secret but even more visible tendency: that of the creation of a new autonomous State, in spite of the theoretical discussions on the unity of the mandate.

In 1936-1937 there was some autonomist agitation in the province among Assyrians and Kurds, supported by some Bedouins.

Arabs in Sweden

It is worth mentioning that many of them might not actually be ethnically Arab but due to the general confusion between the meaning of Arab and other groups coming from the same area (such as the case of Kurds, Berbers, Turkmen, Assyrians, Roma etc.) the exact number of the actual Arab population in the Sweden may be greatly biased.

Arabs in the Netherlands

It is worth mentioning that many of them might not actually be ethnically Arab but due to the general confusion between the meaning of Arab and other groups coming from the same area (such as the case of Kurds, Berbers, Turkmen, Assyrians, Roma etc.) the exact number of the actual Arab population in the Netherlands may be greatly biased.

Arameans

This process was continued by Ashurnasirpal II, and his son Shalmaneser III, who destroyed many of the small tribes, and gave control of Aramea (modern Syria) and local trade and natural resources to the Assyrians.

Assyrian genocide

In 1933 a massacre of thousands of unarmed Assyrians took place at Simele and other areas in Iraq at the hands of the Iraqi Army and Kurdish irregulars.

Assyrians in the United Kingdom

Following the Invasion of Iraq in 2003, more Assyrians fled to the UK in the face of increased religious and ethnic persecution from Arab Islamists and Kurdish Nationalists, including bombing of churches, random killings, violent harassment and kidnappings.

Assyrians in the United Kingdom include members of the Semitic, Eastern Aramaic speaking Assyrian ethnic group born or residing in the United Kingdom.

(The Assyrians suffered greatly for this, and hundreds of thousands were massacred during the Assyrian Genocide of World War I at the hands of the Ottoman Turks and their Kurdish and Arab allies).

Battle of Nihriya

The Battle of Niḫriya was the culminating point of the hostilities between the Hittites and the Assyrians for control over the remnants of the former empire of Mitanni.

Josiah

However, the passage over the ridge of hills which shuts in on the south of the great Jezreel Valley was blocked by the Judean army led by Josiah, who may have considered that the Assyrians and Egyptians were weakened by the death of the pharaoh Psamtik I only a year earlier (610 BC), who had been appointed and confirmed by Assyrian kings Esarhaddon and Assurbanipal.

Lullubi

Most notably, Ashur-nasir-pal II had to suppress a revolt among the Lullubian / Zamuan chiefs in 881 BC, during which they constructed a wall in the Bazian pass (between modern Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah) in a failed attempt to keep the Assyrians out.

Salting the earth

Later accounts of other saltings in the destructions of medieval Italian cities are now rejected as unhistorical: Padua by Attila (452)--perhaps in a parallel between Attila and the ancient Assyrians; Milan by Frederick Barbarossa (1162); and Semifonte by the Florentines (1202).

Syriac Christianity

The Eastern Rite tradition was historically associated with the Church of the East, and is currently employed by the Middle Eastern churches that descend from it, the Assyrian Church of the East, Ancient Church of the East, and the Chaldean Catholic Church, (the members of these churches are commonly Eastern Aramaic speaking ethnic Assyrians) as well as by the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church of India.
