Bishopric of Verdun

The Bishopric of Verdun was also a state of the Holy Roman Empire; it was located at the western edge of the Empire and was bordered by France, the Duchy of Luxembourg, and the Duchy of Bar.

Duchy of Bar

In 1354 Robert of Bar, who married a princess of France, was made Marquis of Pont-à-Mousson by the Emperor Charles IV and took the title of Duke of Bar.

They chose their seat at Bar, which was subsequently called Bar-le-Duc.

Longwy

After the division of that kingdom, the town became part of Upper Lorraine and ultimately the Duchy of Bar.

Order of Hubert

The 'Order of the Greyhound was founded in 1416 in the Duchy of Bar.
