After racing in various American and Canadian karting series, Ostella made his professional racing debut in Formula BMW Americas in 2008 for Eurointernational, finishing 9th in points.
In 2005, a special Formula BMW invitational event was held as part of the Race of Champions at the Stade de France in Paris.

Top speeds in the National Class are easily as high as in the other Junior Formulae of BMW and Renault, but cornering speeds tend to be lower as Formula Ford cars lack the downforce-producing aerodynamic aids on the other cars; handling is therefore entirely down to mechanical grip, and the lack of wings ensures that cars following another are not aerodynamically disadvantaged, allowing some of the closest racing with plenty of overtaking.
This Series was the latest addition to the Championships already organised by Motorsport Asia, namely the Asian Touring Car Championship, Formula BMW Asia and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia in the region's leading motorsport event, the Asian Festival of Speed.
Jean-Denis's son, Louis, won Swiss karting championships in 2009 and 2011 before moving to Formula BMW (2012) and Formula Renault (2013).
After karting, Phinny made his Formula BMW USA debut in 2005 for Gelles Racing for two races and competed full-time in 2006 for Hearn Motorsports.
On course the 2007 event featured races run by the Historic Stock Car Racing Series, Formula D drift competitions, Formula BMW, Atlantic Championship and the marquee running of the Champ Car World Series.
Sentul does, however, continue to serve as a safe course for drivers competing in the Pertamina Fastron Asian Formula 3 Super Series, Formula V6 Asia, Formula BMW Pacific, ATCS, Carrera Cup Asia, National Superbike Races and similar events.
Jensen MotorSport also operated a two car team in the Formula BMW USA championship for drivers Tom Sutherland and Frankie Muniz.
