The school, managed by the North Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India, was upgraded to a high school by Rev. C. Mueller who came here to assist German missionary Hermann Gundert.
He did his early schooling from Mannayad school and Middle school, Illicoon in Nettur which was established by the legendary visionary and philanthropist Hermann Gundert.

The University Ordinance has provided for the institution of Chairs in the names of Swathi Thirunal, Raja Ravi Varma, Kumaran Asan, C. V. Raman Pillai and Hermann Gundert.
