5 unusual facts about IPCC Fifth Assessment Report

IPCC Fifth Assessment Report

The AR5 will provide an update of knowledge on the scientific, technical and socio-economic aspects of climate change.

It can be said with high confidence that the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets have been losing mass in the last two decades and that Arctic sea ice and Northern Hemisphere spring snow cover have continued to decrease in extent.

AR5 relies on the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5), an international effort among the climate modeling community to coordinate climate change experiments.

The IPCC was established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information concerning climate change, its potential effects and options for adaptation and mitigation.

Michael Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer is a long-time participant in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, serving recently as a lead author of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report and now as a coordinating lead author of the Fifth Assessment Report as well as a Special Report on climate extremes and disasters.

Atopica

The project will actively contribute to the Fifth IPCC Assessment Report (AR5) due in 2013-14 and realize a policy-relevant guidance to hamper Ambrosia invasion and air pollutant interactions with aeroallergens.
