The community lies between Bundesstraßen 255, linking Koblenz and Hachenburg, and 414, leading from Montabaur to Herborn.
The community lies north of Montabaur some 260 m in elevation in meadowland with a gradually climbing slope, within the low mountain landscape of the Westerwald, which is framed by the high Westerwald and the Montabaur Heights (Montabaurer Höhenzug).
The community lies west of Bundesautobahn 3, five kilometres from Montabaur, to the lee of the Stelzenbach Forest, above the Gelbach Valley and only seven kilometres from the Lahn Valley with its episcopal town, Limburg an der Lahn.

It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde of Montabaur, a kind of collective municipality.
Since 1971 it has belonged to what was then the newly founded Verbandsgemeinde of Wirges, a kind of collective municipality, and since 1974 it has been part of the Westerwaldkreis whose district seat is in Montabaur.
The highway runs thence alongside the Aartalsee (a reservoir) on to Herborn, ending at Montabaur.
Lying roughly 35 km east of Koblenz, halfway between the agglomerations of Frankfurt am Main and Cologne, Guckheim has at its disposal a good transport infrastructure with the new InterCityExpress stations in Montabaur and Limburg an der Lahn, the A 3 (Cologne–Frankfurt; interchange at Diez/Nentershausen) and Bundesstraßen 8 and 255, all found nearby.

On 27 July 1564, Guckheim, along with the parishes of Salz, Meudt, Nentershausen and Hundsangen was ceded to the Electorate of Trier in the Treaty of Diez, and thereby also ended up in the Amt of Montabaur.

Through the buslines of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund, the Westerburg-Limburg-Frankfurt and Westerburg-Altenkirchen-Cologne railway lines and the InterCityExpress stop in Montabaur, Kaden is linked to the long-distance transport network.

Neuhäusel lies in the area of the Augst communities (a small region) and belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde of Montabaur, a kind of collective municipality.
Postal bus service between Montabaur and Welschneudorf by way of Oberelbert was begun on 11 November 1926.

Sometime before 1200, in the municipal area (Bann) of the village of Humbach (Montabaur), the Archbishop of Trier owned, among other things, a Wildhube (a fief that required the holder to protect Imperial hunting rights) at Elewartin.
The two Westerwald districts (Oberwesterwaldkreis and Unterwesterwaldkreis) were dissolved and merged into the Westerwaldkreis with its seat in Montabaur.
It is not to be confused with Stahlhofen, another community in the same district, but in the Verbandsgemeinde of Montabaur.
Staudt is only two kilometres from both the towns of Montabaur and Wirges, as well as the nationally important roads Bundesstraße 255 and the A 3 (Cologne–Frankfurt).
