In 1961, Daily and Pierce ended their partnership and at the end of 1961 Daily left Starday and Mercury to go to United Artists, becoming their country & western director.

Tyler called his aquittance Don Pierce, who worked in Pappy Daily's Starday Records.
The label began in 1952 in Beaumont, Texas when local businessmen Jack Starnes (Lefty Frizzell's manager) and Houston record distributor Harold W. Daily (better known as "Pappy") decided to form a record label.
