The highest point is Mount Shaviklde (meaning "Black Cliff" in Georgian) at an elevation of 2,850 meters above sea level (9,348 ft.).

The eastern edge of the Range runs along the western border of Tbilisi, while the western edge lies along River Mtkvari to the southwest of Borjomi.

The district occupies Shida Kartli plain, stretching on the both sides of Kura River - bordering southern parts of Greater Caucasus to the North and Trialeti Range to the South.
