Ъ ъ : Cyrillic letter Yer (also known as the hard sign, back yer, or tvyordiy znak) is shaped like the letter b, but has no phonetic value on its own in modern East Slavic languages.
However, the name of the letter Й is "и-kratko" (short /i/), the name of Ъ is "er-golyam" (large Er), and the name of Ь is "er-malak" (small Er).
To make the point that the publication had outlasted the Soviet regime, "Kommersant" is spelled in Russian with a terminal hard sign (ъ) – a letter that is silent at the end of a word in modern Russian, and was thus abolished by the post-revolution Russian spelling reform.
Bulgarian standard is the same except for the two letters given in parentheses (Bulgarian language does not use Ы, while Ъ, missing in the Russian standard, is frequent).

Gervase of Tilbury or Gervasius Tilberiensis (ca. 1150 – ca. 1228) was a 13th-century canon lawyer, statesman and writer, born in West Tilbury, in Essex, England.
