The 2003 International Songwriting Competition was a songwriting competition held in 2003.
Power co-hosted the first series of the Irish songwriting competition, The Hit with Nicky Byrne.
The award, created in memory of Canadian country singer Colleen Peterson, is sponsored by the Ontario Arts Council and the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals (OCFF), and is presented to a songwriter selected from 15 nominations put forward by the OCFF's Songs from the Heart songwriting competition, excluding overall winners of the Galaxie Rising Stars Awards.
In May 2009 Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall were awarded the $US25,000 Grand Prize in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition for their composition "Caught in the Crowd".
They formed in 2006 and have released several notable independent recordings including 2010's Ian Blurton produced Self Control, which included the song Hard Times, nominated as a finalist and receiving an honorable mention in the rock category in the International Songwriting Competition whose judges included Peter Gabriel and Tom Waits.
At the start of 2010, The Thirst were invited to compete in a songwriting competition as representatives of England at the Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar, in Viña del Mar, Chile.
His second solo CD, 'War and the World' (2006) is known for the single 'Shred,' 'Leaf,' and an unusual remake of Jefferson Airplane's 'Somebody to Love.' His third solo CD, "Adventures and Misadventures in Loveland," contains the song 'Hard Times' about the recent global economic crisis, 'Bent, but not broken,' as well as a cover of the Leonard Cohen song 'Suzanne.' 'Hard Times' won the October 2011 Searchlight Songwriting Competition.
