Anglia hired a Class 47 from Cotswold Rail from June 2002 as a rescue locomotive and to haul Mark 2 sets on Summer Saturday services to Great Yarmouth.
In April 2005, Cotswold Rail acquired three locomotives, all of which had been out of service for a number of months.
A deal was struck and progressively 90001-015 were delivered to Norwich Crown Point to replace the Class 86s, but their reliability was not good and the last few Class 86s were kept in service, and Class 47s hired from Cotswold Rail were sometimes used.
