Chehalis Western Railroad

In addition, the city of Tacoma began allowing two excursion railroads to operate over portions of the line: the Chehalis–Centralia Railroad, which now operates from Chehalis west to Ruth, Washington (and as a result, operates on the now-restored tracks of the first Chehalis Western Railroad), and the 7-mile Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad, which operates between Tacoma and Morton.

The route winds through scenic hills, farmland, and over several wooden trestles over the Chehalis River.


Camp Chehalis

Camp Chehalis 1860 - 1861, sometimes referred to as Fort Chehalis, was located at the mouth of the Chehalis River near Hoquiam and Grays Harbor, Washington Territory.

Chehalis Lake

Their name Sts'Ailes is said to mean "beating heart"; the similarly named Chehalis, Washington and Chealis River in that area have a different meaning in the Chehalis language - "sand".

Quinault people

The mixture of members with ethnic ties to the modern Quinault tribe is made up of the Quinault, Hoh, Chehalis, Chinook, Cowlitz, Queets, and Quileute peoples.

Satsop River

Some ethnologists classify the Satsops as a subdivision of the Lower Chehalis people while others place them closer to the Upper Chehalis (Kwaiailk) people, in part because the Satsop Coast Salish dialect appears most closely related to the Upper Chehalis dialect.

Ownership in the Twin City Railroad Company and its wholly owned subsidiaries, the Chehalis Electric and Traction Company and the Centralia Electric and Traction Company, was passed on to the Puget Sound Power and Light Company in 1923.
