She was born at the castle of the Catholic Dubský (Dubský von Třebomyslice) noble family in Zdislavice near Kroměříž in Moravia, the daughter of Baron (from 1843: Count) Dubsky and his wife Maria, née Baroness Vockel, who came from a Protestant-Saxon background.

The codex is named after Hieronymus Wilhelm Ebner von Eschenbach (1673–1752); a Nuremberg diplomat and German Enlightenment historian, who founded a library using his extensive collection.
On 1 May 1308 King Albert became separated from his attendants when crossing the Reuss River at Windisch on his way home, and was at once attacked by John and his conspirators Walther von Eschenbach, Rudolf von Wert, Wernher von Wetter(au), Rudolf von Balm and Konrad von Tegerfelden.

However, the evidence is circumstantial and not without problems - there are at least four other places named Eschenbach in present-day Bavaria, and Wolframs-Eschenbach was not part of Bavaria in Wolfram's time.
