The Lezoux plate is a ceramic plate discovered in 1970 at Lezoux, which contains one of the longer texts in the Gaulish language (in a Gallo-Latin cursive script) which has yet been found.
The theme of Maponos son of Matrona (literally, child of mother) and the development of names in the Mabinogi from Common Brythonic and Gaulish theonyms has been examined by Hamp (1999), Lambert (1979), and Meid (1991).
Such “magic words” often include nonsense syllables and more-or-less corrupt phrases from “exotic” languages such as Celtic, Aramaic, Coptic, and Hebrew, and are not indications of formal adherence to a religion.
